Χρήστος Φραγκαθούλας

Christos holds an integrated master’s degree from the department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina, with specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

He has research and work experience in machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, and graph analysis. From 2022 to 2023, in the academic sector as a research staff, he focused on developing innovative solutions for addressing healthcare misinformation detection on social media platforms, leveraging techniques from these domains.

Currently, Christos is pursuing a Ph.D. with a primary focus on Explainable AI (XAI) and fairness in networks. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including counterfactual explanations, fairness enhancement for individuals and groups, graph-based algorithm explanations, and the exploration of contrastive explanations for specific input data pairs.

Current Position

Ph.D. Candidate

University of Ioannina, Department of Computer Science and Engineering

Starting September 2023

I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. with a primary focus on Explainable AI (XAI) and fairness in networks.

Explainable AI (XAI) is a field that aims to make the decision-making process of AI models more transparent and understandable to humans. In an increasingly AI-driven world, it's crucial to have AI systems that not only provide accurate predictions but also allow us to comprehend how and why they make those predictions.

My research interests encompass a wide range of topics within XAI, including:

By addressing these areas, I aim to contribute to the development of AI models that are not only powerful but also interpretable and fair, which is essential for building trust and accountability in AI systems.

Professional Experience

Researcher

University of Ioannina, Department of Computer Science and Engineering

November 2022 - August 2023

I served as a scientific researcher at the Computer Science & Engineering Department, collaborating with the Center for Digital Innovation (CDI) of Pfizer in Greece. My primary focus was on developing innovative solutions for countering health misinformation.

Fake news and online misinformation pose significant threats, particularly in the medical domain. Our project aimed to provide automated, machine-learning-powered tools for understanding, assessing, and combating health misinformation online, contributing to global health and well-being.

Group Leader

Boukas Camp

July 2017 - July 2017

I had the privilege of being the primary contact with children at Boukas Camp, responsible for their well-being and ensuring they had a creative and enjoyable time during their stay.
